Discover the Best Golf, Wildlife & Music of Canada’s East Coast with One Ocean Expeditions

London, 29 August 2019 – Canada’s East Coast is a vast and culturally rich part of the world, best experienced from the water to fully appreciate the region’s diversity.  ‘Fiddles and Sticks’, ‘Fins and Fiddles’ and ‘Labrador and Torngats Explorer’ are comfortable expedition cruises operated by One Ocean Expeditions (OOE) taking travellers on immersive journeys to three distinctive Canadian provinces, four National Historic Parks, one Nature Reserve, two UNESCO World Heritage Sites and four of the best golf courses in Canada.

This summer, OOE’s flagship vessel – RCGS Resolute – began her inaugural voyages in Canadian waters with OOE and, blessed with sunny skies and warm temperatures, guests onboard were overwhelmed by the wide array of experiences both the vessel and the region had to offer.

OOE’s innovative ‘Fiddles & Sticks’ itinerary focused on the world-renowned golf courses of Eastern Canada. Guided by OOE’s onboard golf pro, golfers arrived by zodiac at a new course each day including Cabot Cliffs and Cabot Links, whilst family and friends enjoyed sea and land excursions with activities such as cycling, stand up paddle boarding and sea kayaking

A highlight of the golf expedition as well as the following ‘Fins and Fiddles’ voyage was a rare opportunity to visit Sable Island and its infamous wild horses. A UNESCO World Heritage Site and Canada Nature Reserve, Sable Island sees less than 500 visitors each year, with OOE one of the few to gain a permit for access. Lucky guests participated in the first-ever landing on the south side of the island by an expedition ship. Treated to an in-depth tour by a Parks Canada representatives, guests were ecstatic to spot a great number of feral horses as well as seals, seabirds and an array of historical artefacts along the beaches of this remote Atlantic sand spit.

‘Fins and Fiddles’ 2019, a Canadian Signature Experience, really lived up to its name as guests travelled alongside famed Canadian Celtic band, the Barra MacNeils. To the pleasure of everyone on board the group performed daily both on the ship and on the sandy shores of the Atlantic coast. Encouraging guests to join them on stage, many passengers excitedly performed along with the group at a traditional Maritime ‘kitchen party’.

A visit to Saint-Pierre et Miquelon, a small group of French islands wowed the guests, as did an adventure to kayak to waterfalls at Anticosti Island. A zodiac cruise to recognizable Percé Rock and a wide variety of other activities such as hiking and sea-kayaking ensured every guest had the opportunity to experience the unique beauty and welcoming culture of the Maritimes.

Renowned social anthropologist Wade Davis was welcomed on board the ‘Labrador and Torngats Explorer’ voyage, delivering an exceptional educational experience for guests. An author, filmmaker, lecturer, National Geographic Explorer and Fellow of the Royal Canadian Geographical Society (RCGS), Wade shared his unparalleled knowledge alongside OOE experts.

At the Tablelands in Gros Morne National Park, guests encountered the earth’s mantle, normally found far below the earth’s crust. A visit to L’Anse Aux Meadows – National Historic Site of Canada and UNESCO World Heritage Site – provided insight to the first European landing of the new world over 1,000 years ago.

The journey continued north, where the first iceberg was spotted by guests, followed by a visit to the breath-taking Torngat Mountains National Park, known for its jagged peaks and glacier-carved fjords. RCGS Resolute’s journey along the Atlantic coast concluded as she entered Arctic waters for the first time, with a vibrant sunset and plenty of icebergs.

RCGS Resolute will sail to Canada’s East Coast in 2020. Guests can book to join ‘Fins and Fiddles’ 28 July – 7 August 2020 from US$4995 per person sharing a triple private cabin. Labrador, Torngats and Greenland | Journey to the North expedition will sail 7 – 18 August 2020, with rates from US$5995 per person in a triple share cabin plus US$995 charter flights. Fiddles & Sticks will return in 2021 with sailing dates 18-26 July 2021.
