Shackleton Centenary pre-voyage dinner
Debra had a great evening at the friends of Scott Polar Research Institute Shackleton Centenary pre-voyage dinner held at the magnificent Trinity House, London. During the evening the guests were lucky enough to see some of the houses remarkable maritime artefacts that bear testament to the prominent role played by Trinity House in the nation’s maritime history … a very apt venue for the celebration.
The dinner was held one hundred years to the day (27 September) that Sir Ernest Shackleton left for Buenos Aires to meet his vessel, the Endurance. Along with Icetracks passengers and guests the dinner was also to celebrate their imminent departure for Buenos Aires on the Friends of SPRI Shackleton Centenary voyage, operated by Toucanmoon’s client, One Ocean Expeditions.
On the 7 March a magnificent farewell dinner was given to Sir Ernest by the London Devonian Association. We were privileged to share the same menu.
Along with Icetracks, One Ocean Expeditions agreed to make a donation to Friends of SPRI for every passenger travelling on this special voyage. During the dinner, Debra was delighted to hand-over a cheque for a substantial amount of $$, to Nick Lambert, Chairman of the Friends of SPRI.
So, in just over four weeks time, the passengers will be leaving London to join the Akademik Sergey Vavilov in Ushuaia for a 19-night voyage celebrating Shackleton’s centenary sailing to South Georgia as well as the Falklands and Antarctic.
Amazing story and brilliant linkage to a courageous explorer – what an unforgettable trip people will have! You didn’t say what had been on that menu….tell us!
