New Adventure Hike in the Wilds of Argentina

New Adventure Hike in the Wilds of Argentina

London, 18 July 2018Adventurous hikers will be drawn to a new five-day trek with South America specialist, Swoop Patagonia, which crosses Argentina’s rugged Cordon del Bosque mountain range, to reach the tranquil shores of Lago del Desierto.

Not for the faint hearted, the ‘El Condor to Lago del Desierto’ trek requires participants to ford rivers, traverse rugged terrain, negotiate ancient beech forests, descend in to valleys for up to eight hours a day and stay overnight in a remote estancia, in gaucho refuges or wild camps.

The rewards for completing these challenges, however, make all the effort worthwhile.  Stunning scenery along the route, which crosses private land where the environment and wildlife are protected and no other hikers are permitted, includes the sparkling turquoise waters of San Martin Lake and the Martinez de Rosas River.

The guided trip culminates at the Lago del Desierto where secluded accommodation is offered at the exclusive, eco-friendly wooden lodge, Aguas Arribas, situated on the eastern edge of the lake.

Accessible only by boat or via a three-hour hike, it is in marked contrast to the more rustic lodgings featured earlier in the trek.  Six en-suite bedrooms, each with large picture windows, offer amazing views of the lake and the granite peaks of the Los Glaciares National Park – including the most famous, Cerro FitzRoy – as well as great hospitality, delicious cuisine and the chance to try relax in comfortable, homely accommodation.

Departures of this trek are arranged for groups and like-minded single travellers and cost from £1708 per person, which covers return ground transportation between El Calafate Airport and the National Park, a mountain guide, all meals during the hike, National Park entry fees and permits, plus accommodation in a combination as outlined.

Prices do not include international or domestic flights, for which a budget of £1500 is recommended.

Departures October through to March.
