One Ocean Expeditions supports ambitious travelling art exhibit to inspire the world to discover the Canadian Arctic
Canadian polar cruise specialist, One Ocean Expeditions (OOE) is proud to partner with one of Canada’s Top 100 Living Explorers and artist/filmmaker/explorer, Cory Trépanier, in sponsoring his ambitious INTO THE ARCTIC Exhibition Tour.
Over a decade in the making, Trépanier’s INTO THE ARCTIC Exhibition showcases an unprecedented collection of 50 Arctic oil paintings and two documentary films from his four expeditions to the Far North. The exhibition premieres on 9 February 2017 at the Embassy of Canada art gallery in Washington D.C. and will travel to seven museums across the US over two years. For the worldwide audience, the INTO THE ARCTIC Exhibition can be viewed online www.intothearctic.ca/exhibitiontour.
A highlight of the collection is the 15-foot wide “Great Glacier” painting – one of the largest Arctic landscape paintings in Canada’s history. “Exploring and painting this remote part of the world – by foot, canoe, camping and traveling with local Inuit – prepares me to experience nature’s wonder on a visceral and emotional level. Through this intimate approach, I experienced firsthand the awe and overwhelming sense of humility that is brought on from the realization of how tiny we are in these expansive landscapes,” says Trépanier.
These ambitious journeys were made possible with the help of various supporters including One Ocean Expeditions, whose polar vessel picked up Trépanier from the shores of a remote Arctic island on his fourth expedition. From these expeditions Trépanier has produced two documentary films, Into The Arctic, and Canadian Screen Award Nominated Into The Arctic II, with the final film in the trilogy to be released later this year. These films are integral to the exhibition and cinematically convey the wonder, awe and challenges of his northern painting expeditions.
One Ocean Expeditions operates expedition cruises throughout the Canadian Arctic including the Northwest Passage, High Arctic, Baffin Island, Labrador and Torngat Mountains. These innovative travel itineraries visit several locations Cory Trépanier magically captures on canvas.
In the summer of 2018, Cory Trépanier will be joining One Ocean Expeditions aboard their Baffin Island-Jewel of the Arctic voyage (3-14 August 2018), taking part in the OOE Guest Speaker Series where Arctic ambassadors share compelling stories of polar explorations and travel tales, deepening the fascination and appreciation of one of the most beautiful regions of the world. Inspired by Trépanier, OOE aims to continue to collaborate with other artists through their newly launched Artist in Residence program.
